There are many vegan restaurants in Cancun, some are strictly vegan, while others offer a full menu with vegan options. However the style, you’ll be sure to find your Vegan fix.
Vegan food in Mexico
In this article we talk about “traditional” Mexican food. These dishes are prepared with a variety of meat, such as beef, chicken, pork, and fish. In Vegan restaurants, these dishes are still prepared in the “traditional” way, with plant-based or soy products replacing the meat.
I’m sure you will agree that these “traditional” Mexican foods are still very “authentic”!
Mexican food prepared Veganaise
As outlined above, preparing traditional Mexican food as vegan is as simple as leaving the meat out, or replacing it with a different non-meat product. For example, the breakfast chilaquile has chicken and eggs but when you leave out the pollo, it’s still a chilaquile, only vegan-style. Enchiladas are filled with carne (meat) or pescado (fish) and cheese, beans and vegetables.
Using any Vegan meat as a substitute keeps the original flavour, but doesn’t change the tradition. Have you tried Portobello tacos? Delicious!
